St George's Day
|
Mr Jeremy Corbyn wants it to be a public holiday along with the days of the patron saints of Wales, NI & Scotland. England currently has 8 public holidays compared to an average of 12 in the G20 countries

You want a public holiday for this event, yet nobody on this site even knows what day it is. Yesterday was Low Sunday which means that this year the Feast of St. George is celebrated today, Monday 24th April.

That comment by Cholo is one of my favourite things I've ever seen on this forum.
Amusing and profound.

We had a great day round my way. Closed of the high street had a parade, son's football team were in it. Spent the rest of the getting pissed by the stage listening to Irish and Indian music, not a fuckin Morris Man in sight.

Agreed cholo. We don't need to show how great and proud we are because we just are. I find things like Paddy's day reek of small man syndrome

The fact no one can really be arsed with it makes me quite proud to be English.

Greek family, I believe. But Georgie boy was born in Palestine. His family were SETTLERS in PALESTINE according to most accounts. Which makes him a rum choice for Mr Corbyn to want to celebrate, what ho?
Then again, the last high-profile campaigner for St George's Day to be a national holiday was Boris Johnson.

Shakespeare's deathday actually. His date of birth is unclear but he was baptised on the 26th April.

Labour's Emily Thornberry and Huw Thomas will be disgusted at this idea
Been for a drink and a bite in my local and not a flag in sight, Landlord said he felt uncomfortable with hanging English flags due to it's symbolism and misinterpretation
